Cindy Crawford’s children have proved themselves a chip off the old block by collaborating on a stunning photo shoot featuring a series of images of Cindy’s 13-year-old daughter Kaia, which were taken by her 15-year-old son Presley.

In the photos, which were shared on the family’s Instagram account @kyyp, Kaia can be seen modeling a number of her mother’s most recognizable outfits, including a colorful Roberto Cavalli number first worn by Cindy at the Conde Nast Traveler Readers' Choice Awards in New York City in 2003. 

In another, which Ms Crawford shared with the caption 'Love seeing my my kids work together for @kbyp #proudmama,' Kaia wears a flowing fuchsia frock by Calypso St. Barth that her mom wore in a recent commercial for her signature furniture line.

Victim gives burglar £20 after apology for £10,000 theft

A Bolton woman gave a burglar £20 to spend in prison - after he apologised for stealing £10,000 worth of items from her home.

Loretta Smith's home was burgled by Kevin Derbyshire and his accomplice Graham Llewellyn, both 24, who were later jailed for 32 months each.
But after some of the 75-year-old's possessions were returned and Derbyshire apologised, she decided to do what she "thought was right" and give him a reward.

Chimamanda Adichie, Aliko Dangote, Arunma Oreh & More Nominated for Forbes Africa 2014 Person of the Year Award

 

Forbes Africa has revealed the nominees for their 2014 Person of the Year award and notably, three Nigerians are on the list – Aliko Dangote, author Chimamanda Adichie and Director-General of the Securities and Exchange Commission, Arunma Oteh.

Also on the list are Thuli Madonsela, a South African advocate and the nation’s public protector who helped draft the country’s constitution in 1994 and was named one of Time Magazine’s 100 Most Influential People this year as well as Donald Kaberuka, the Rwandan economist who has ushered in significant change for the continent during his 10 years tenure as the president of the African Development Bank.

According to Forbes, the award seeks to reward “the individual who, for better or worse, has had the most influence on business on the year gone by”.

The event is set to take place on the 4th of December 2014.

Forbes Person of the Year 2013 went to Nigerian, Akinwumi Adesina, Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development for Nigeria. Forbes Person of the Year in 2012 went to James Mwangi, CEO of Equity Bank, Kenya. Also in 2011, the Forbes Person of the Year award went to Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria.

A Girl's ear was bitten off during a fight with her neighbour in ikorodu Lagos

A Lagos State Polytechnic student named Bola had her right ear bitten off by her neighbour during a fight this past Monday October 20th at her residence in Ikorodu Lagos state. According to an eye-witness to the fight, the other lady allegedly hid the ear in her mouth for a few minutes after biting if off. She then spit it out and stepped on it as people were looking for it. Anyway, she was later arrested and the case is now being handled by the police force at First Gate in Ikorodu. Cancer killing stem cells engineered in lab

Brain tumours are often solid and hard to reach so stem cells are an effective way of targeting them

Scientists from Harvard Medical School have discovered a way of turning stem cells into killing machines to fight brain cancer.

In experiments on mice, the stem cells were genetically engineered to produce and secrete toxins which kill brain tumours, without killing normal cells or themselves.

Researchers said the next stage was to test the procedure in humans.

A stem cell expert said this was "the future" of cancer treatment.

Fire Outbreak In MMA

According to emerging reports, a fire has broken out at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) in Lagos causing panic among occupants and travellers.

The incident occurred on the second floor of the airport terminal but the fire was extinguished before it could cause any major damage, Daily Post reports.

The blaze is said to have originated from the
commercial department of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) due to a power surge.

However, the situation has been reportedly been brought under control and airport activities are returning to normal.

Missing Malaysia Airlines plane ‘a mystery’

 

       Malaysia’s civil aviation chief has said the fate of a missing Malaysia Airlines jet remains “a mystery”. Azharuddin Abdul Rahman said officials had not ruled out hijacking as a cause of the plane’s disappearance.

He said all reported sightings of debris from the plane in the seas south of Vietnam were unconfirmed.
     Malaysia Airlines flight MH370 vanished from radar almost three days ago en route to Beijing from Kuala Lumpur, with 239 people on board.
Relatives of the missing passengers have been told to prepare for the worst.
‘Searching every second’
    Azharuddin Abdul Rahman, who heads the department of civil aviation, told reporters in Kuala Lumpur: “Unfortunately we have not found anything that appears to be objects from the aircraft, let alone the aircraft.”

    He added that they were intensifying efforts to find the plane, and the search would “take as long as it takes”.
“We are every hour, every second looking at every area of the sea.”
There are now 40 ships and 34 aircraft from nine different nations taking part in the search in the seas off Vietnam and Malaysia.
Late on Sunday, the Vietnamese authorities said two objects had been sighted in waters south of Vietnam which appeared to resemble aircraft parts, including a door.
The debris was in a similar area to a possible oil slick seen by Vietnamese navy planes on Saturday.
But Azharuddin Abdul Rahman said on Monday that this sighting had never been officially verified and could not be confirmed.
Samples of the oil had been collected and sent to a laboratory for analysis to see if it came from the plane, he said.
US Navy officials earlier said their aircraft had not seen any debris associated with commercial aircraft wreckage.

Flight MH370 left Kuala Lumpur for Beijing at 00:41 local time on Saturday (16:41 GMT on Friday). But radio contact was lost at 17:30 GMT, somewhere between Malaysia and Vietnam.
Officials say they still have no idea what went wrong.

 Malaysian military officials said on Sunday they were widening the search area because of indications the plane, a Boeing 777-200ER, may have turned back from its scheduled route shortly before vanishing from radar screens.

Commander William Marks from the US Seventh Fleet, which is taking part in the search, told the BBC the search area covered hundreds of kilometres.
“Just from the air we can see things as small as almost the size of your hand, or a basketball. So it’s not a matter of if we can see it – it’s an extremely large area.”
Investigators are looking at all angles, including a possible terror attack. Counter-terrorism agencies and the FBI are involved in the operation.
The focus has been on two passengers who boarded the flight using stolen passports.
International police agency Interpol has confirmed the passengers were travelling with Italian and Austrian passports stolen in Thailand years ago.
They had purchased their tickets at the same time from China Southern Airlines which shared the flight with Malaysia Airlines, had consecutive ticket numbers and were both booked on the same onward flight from Beijing to Europe on Saturday.

The passengers on the flight were of 14 different nationalities. Two-thirds were from China, while others were from elsewhere in Asia, North America and Europe.

      China has sent a team of government officials to Kuala Lumpur to look into the case.
The BBC’s John Sudworth in Beijing says relatives waiting for news are getting increasingly frustrated, saying they are not getting information in a timely manner.
They have complained that government officials have not visited the families, our correspondent adds.
Meanwhile, Malaysian King Abdul Halim Mu’adzam Shah offered his condolences to the passengers.
      He said he and the Queen “would like to express our sympathy to the passengers and crew, especially to their family”.
Malaysia Airlines is the country’s national carrier, flying nearly 37,000 passengers daily to some 80 destinations worldwide.
      On Monday, shares in Malaysia Airlines fell 18% to a record low.

 Ronald Noble, the secretary general of Interpol,said in a statement that while it was too soon to speculate on any connection between the theft and the plane’s disappearance, it was “clearly of great concern that any passenger was able to board an international flight using a stolen passport listed in Interpol databases”.

Five passengers booked on the flight did not board, and their luggage was consequently removed.

“Messi is great, I don’t think he needs to win with Argentina to be great,” Mourinho told Yahoo. “Ronaldo is great, I don’t think he needs to be world champion with Portugal to be great.
“But Maradona did it and Zidane did it and Ronaldo Nazario and Rivaldo did it. Many of the big guys did it, so everybody’s waiting for them to do it.”
Messi will face Bosnia & Herzegovina, Nigeria and Iran with Argentina in Group F of the World Cup finals, while Ronaldo will hope to navigate Portugal out of a tough group containing Germany, Ghana and USA.

ASUU Strike: FG Rejected Suggestion To Involve Shagari, Obasanjo And Others

The Federal Government has rejected the suggestion to involve past Presidents/Heads of States, governors and traditional rulers in its current face-off with the Academic Staff Union of Universities.

National President of Nigerian Union of Teachers, Michael Olukoya, had after a palliative meeting with the Minister of Education, Nyeson Wike; and the Minister of Labour and Productivity, Emeka Wogu, in Abuja offered the suggestion.

The suggestion came to the heels of recent treats by the NUT to embark on sympathy strike with ASUU, if government failed to resolve the crisis.

Although Wike told journalists that the advice would be looked into but investigations by our correspondent revealed that the government’s team had not considered heeding the advice almost four weeks after it was given.

Our correspondent also learnt on Monday that the NUT had been taking submission from its state executives on the modalities and strategies to adopt in their sympathy strike with ASUU.

A government source who spoke to our correspondent in confidence said, “The Federal Government team is strong enough to broker peace with ASUU. There is no need in involving other persons not in government in the discussion when we are already achieving progress”.

Asked why the government made commitment to the NUT when it was suggested, the source reply, “There was no commitment anywhere. It was a meeting where stakeholders express their desire to move the sector forward. So it was out of mutual respect that both parties spoke.”

When contacted on whether the government has taken steps to involve the past leaders as promised, Special Assistant (Media) to Wike, Simeon Nwakaudu said, “ I don’t understand what you mean by promise. All I can say is that government is desirous to find a lasting solution. And it is working towards that.”

Olukoya had suggested that given the inability of some committees earlier set up to settle the crisis, the Federal Government should seek the intervention of past presidents, governors, traditional rulers and serving Senators.

He said, “With the way this strike has lingered on for three months, we believe government should explore all modalities to end it. Government should invite past heads of states, speakers, senators , ministers of labour and education and every other stakeholder in the sector to resolve this ugly situation.

“Call powerful voices like traditional leaders to intervene in this strike because our concern as teachers is that as these undergraduates stay at home, they are prone to negative vices and in turn these are the same people that would lead the society in future.”
